Goodwin College Names Francis Harvey, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the School of Education

Goodwin College of Professional Studies is pleased to announce the appointment of Francis A. Harvey, Ed.D., as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the School of Education effective July 1, 2009.

Under the direction of William Lynch, Ph.D., Dean of Goodwin College, Dr. Harvey has served as interim associate dean for the past year, providing general leadership to all of the School of Education’s academic programs. In his new position, he will continue to be responsible for direction and support of School of Education program directors, faculty and academic staff, along with supporting faculty research.  In addition, he is responsible for new program development and implementation, and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.

Dr. Harvey brings to this position a wealth of experience in education, leadership and research. Since joining Drexel’s faculty in 1998, Harvey, an associate professor, served for two years as director of the Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership and Learning Technologies and is director of the Global and International Education program.  As Principal Investigator (PI), he has brought in more than a million dollars in grant money for the School of Education.

Prior to coming to Drexel, Dr. Harvey held a joint appointment in Lehigh University’s College of Education and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and served as Associate Director for Education at the National Science Foundation’s ATLSS Engineering Research Center at Lehigh.

Additionally, Dr. Harvey has taught science, mathematics, science education, math education, educational technology and related courses at every level, ranging from kindergarten to Ph.D. courses, in the United States and Ghana.  He has also designed, developed and evaluated math and science television programs for PBS and commercial television and served as project director for several large-scale corporate and K-12 multimedia training projects.

Dr. Harvey has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Science in Secondary Education (Physics) from SUNY at Geneseo, N.Y., and an Ed.D. in Science Education from Harvard.
