Discipline: Applied Engineering Technology

Research Keywords: Biomedical Ultrasound, Underwater Acoustics, Nondestructive Testing of Materials, Instrumentation, Piezoelectric Transducers

Profile:

Dr. Vladimir Genis joined Drexel University’s School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems in 1989 as a research faculty member. He conducted research in biomedical ultrasound in collaboration with researchers of the radiology department of Thomas Jefferson University, including ultrasonic tissue characterization, development, and evaluation of the ultrasound therapeutic equipment, as well as development of various devices for medical applications. Before coming to Drexel University, Dr. Genis worked on numerous projects related to detection and classification of underwater objects.

Dr. Genis joined the Goodwin College of Professional Studies in 2003 as an associate professor within the Applied Engineering Technology (AET) program. He provided the leadership to AET faculty in the development of new curricula, including lecture and laboratory courses for both full-time and dual AET programs. As an AET program director, his responsibilities include strategic planning, budget preparation, hiring of faculty and employees, supervision, curriculum management, and recruiting and advising students.

Although the emphasis of Dr. Genis’ present activities is placed on administration, instruction, and course/laboratory development, he continues his research activities in collaboration with researchers from the School of Biomedical Engineering and College of Engineering. One of his National Science Foundation (NSF) proposals, for which he served as Principle Investigator (PI), was awarded and another is under review and was recommended for funding. He also submitted patent applications regarding utilization of piezoelectric ceramic in industrial and defense-related applications.

Dr. Genis currently serves as a member of the Drexel University Faculty Senate, AET Industrial Advisory Committee, and Montgomery County Community College Engineering and Design Technology Advisory Committee.
