M.S. in Professional Studies: E-Learning Leadership Concentration
The M.S. in Professional Studies: E-Learning Leadership Concentration, housed within the Multidisciplinary and Emerging Programs division of Drexel University’s Goodwin College, is designed for individuals and practitioners with established career paths who are interested in: developing marketable skills to meet and exceed evolving workforce demands, seeking professional development, and expanding promotional opportunities.
Building on Drexel University’s success in developing large-scale, high quality e-learning programs and the research of Drexel’s School of Education, Drexel offers the M.S. in Professional Studies: E-Learning Leadership Concentration, which is designed to meet the needs of today's working professionals across many fields. As the demand for academic programs and courses to be delivered via e-learning continues to grow, the corresponding need for leadership in this important area increases. Similarly, corporations continue to seek leaders to oversee training and development initiatives via e-learning.
The “millennial generation” and previous generations have demonstrated a preference for learning through non-traditional and informal strategies. As the demand for technology-based solutions grows so will the need to have trained professionals prepared to develop and deliver distance learning solutions. Additionally, as corporations seek to enhance training and the delivery of that training to an increasingly global workforce, they are looking increasingly to distance learning to help achieve the organization’s learning goals while at the same time controlling costs and maintaining quality control.
Through learning technologies, faculty members and students will collaborate to develop the skills needed to make full use of the new opportunities in online and distance learning.
Upon completion of the program, students will have formed an in-depth understanding of online and distance learning theory and practice, and will be able to:
-
Understand the entrepreneurial aspects of leading an e-learning enterprise including how to develop a business plan
-
Discover and endorse emerging technologies with the overall goal of enhancing both individual learning and the educational venture as a whole
-
Impart leadership over approach to pedagogy and e-learning technologies—including virtual worlds, mobile devices, and gaming environments—to optimize learning outcomes and return on investment
-
Design educational content and programs for the purpose of dissemination via varying online formats, including home, office, and mobile.
