Privacy Law

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal advice on a broad range of issues relating to privacy issues affecting the University.  In so doing, the OGC

  • advises on the interpretation of federal and state laws such as HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) and FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and state data breach notification statutes;
  • drafts compliant agreements such as HIPAA Business Associate Agreements;
  • advises on release and access to protected information;
  • assists with drafting and interpretation of relevant University policies and procedures.
