Amanda Decker

Fulbright Student Scholar to Germany 2014-15

Chemical Engineering BS/MS, 2014, Honors

Amanda will be working in conjunction with two departments at Ruhr University of Bochum (RUB), with Dr. Stefan Hahn (Department of GI-Oncology) and Georg Schmitz (Medical Engineering) to study sonoporation as a drug delivery system.  This research will explore the mechanism behind microbubble cavitation via ultrasound waves in order to improve drug targeting and drug uptake by surrounding cells.

Amanda also proposes to put her chemical engineering plant skills to use by beginning design work on a hypothetical production facility for the microbubbles for large-scale pharmaceutical use once the technology is ready for use in humans.
