Two Drexel Students Receive NSF EAPSI

Congratulations to Pavithra Ramakrishnan (Biomedical Engineering, MS) and Oren Leaffer (Materials Science and Engineering, PhD). They will be participating in NSF’s East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes.

Pavithra will be working at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Dr. Xiaoren Zhang's lab. Her research will focus on the development of medullary thymic epithelial cells that will help explain autoimmune disorders. Oren will travel to Sydney, Australia, to work at the University of New South Wales and fabricate nanowire based devices integrating plasmonic lenses into the contacts.

The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering first-hand research experience in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan. They also serve as an introduction to the science and science policy infrastructure of the respective location, orientation to the culture and language, and aim to help students initiate scientific relationships that will better enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts. The institutes last approximately eight weeks from June to August and are administered in the United States by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
