Upcoming Events and Deadlines
- Thursday December 3rd, 4:30 – 6:30pm
The Drexel Fellowships Office in conjunction with the Center for Civic Engagement will hold a panel discussion on post-graduation public service opportunities on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in the Private Dining Hall, Creese Student Center from 4:30PM – 6:30PM. The panel discussion will feature representatives from various national and international service programs such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Philly Fellows, Philadelphia Teaching Fellows, City Year and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. While all students committed to public service are welcome to attend, juniors and graduating seniors will benefit most from the event.

The Drexel Fellowships Office invites college Juniors (and younger students who are planning ahead) to learn more about the Truman Scholarship program on Thursday November 19th, 6-7pm, in the Pennoni Seminar Room, Room 5051, MacAlister Hall (33rd and Chestnut).
The Truman Scholarship is a highly prestigious and competitive award for college juniors who are genuinely committed to public service careers. The award provides intensive leadership development and mentoring, along with financial support for graduate school in an area related to your public service ambitions. University nomination is required; the campus deadline is Jan 5th.
More information on the award is available at www.truman.gov. Interested students are strongly encouraged to look at the program website in advance and come with specific questions.

John and Edythe Portz Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship
The National Collegiate Honors Council’s John and Edythe Portz Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship provides students in good standing in honors programs of NCHC member institutions support to conduct creative and innovative research that crosses boundaries. The fellowship program invites applications from individuals who wish to undertake cross-disciplinary research or from a team of two students from different disciplines who propose a single collaborative project. The project will be funded for a period of up to 15 months with the expectation that upon its completion the Fellowship recipient will make a presentation of the research at the annual NCHC conference. Fellowship support will be in an amount between $5,000 and $7,000. NCHC expects to award up to 2 Portz fellowships per year.

Congratulations to Uk Jung (Architecture 2008) on being selected as a finalist for the prestigious Marshall Scholarship. Uk proposed to study Sustainable Environmental Design (MSc) at the Architecture Association School in London.
Marshall is a highly competitive and prestigious scholarship, funded by the British government, that allows top American students to pursue graduate study in any field anywhere in the UK. Universities may only submit two candidates each year, with endorsement given through a competitive campus process. Students interested in the Marshall for 2011-12 academic year are encouraged to contact the Fellowships Office by early spring 2010.

Congratulations to Drexel University’s P3 team –who recently won the Environmental Protection Agency’s annual People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) competition. Drexel University’s P3 Team members include Materials Engineering professor, Dr. Michel Barsoum, and Materials Science seniors, Sarah Byrnes, Eric Eisele, Daniel Pugh, Courtney Reid, and Charlie Woods.
