Reseach: Centers on improving an oral delivery device that would allow delivery to proteins such as insulin through the oral route thus eliminating the need for injections. The delivery device used is pH sensitive so that it will protect the protein from the acidic conditions of the stomach and other enzymes present but release it in the upper small intestine where the pH rises to a more neutral to basic conditions. This area of release would allow the protein to be absorbed and enter the blood stream where it can be most effective. Researching several methods of increasing the adhesion of the device at the area of delivery (small intestines) through synthetic and biological means.
