College of Engineering Appoints Assistant Dean of Media Technologies

June 1, 2011 Dr. Bruce Eisenstein, Interim Dean of CoE, appointed Dr. Youngmoo Kim, to Assistant Dean of Engineering for Media Technologies. This new position is tasked with enhancing the College of Engineering's public presence through both traditional and new media.
Drexel is known as “Philadelphia's Technological University,” and this new position reflects the College of Engineering's belief in the importance of a cutting-edge digital presence, including a modern website, blog and smartphone applications, that reflect the world-class research and educational activities within the College. As we work to improve public awareness of our activities, this effort will enhance the stature of Drexel both within and beyond the Philadelphia region.
Dr. Kim is Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and he directs the Music and Entertainment Technology Laboratory (MET-lab), which pursues research at the intersection of engineering, design and creative expression and performance. Areas of active research at MET-lab include music information retrieval, robotics and new interfaces for expressive interaction and K-12 outreach for engineering education. Dr. Kim is Principal Investigator on projects totaling over $7M in funding from the National Science Foundation. Most recently, MET-lab's “iNotes” project with the Philadelphia Orchestra for audience engagement was a winner of the Knight Foundation's Arts Challenge in Philadelphia.
