The College of Engineering Appoints New Assistant Deans

April 27, 2011 Dr. Bruce Eisenstein, Interim Dean of CoE, named Dr. Alisa Morss Clyne, Assistant Dean of Engineering for Undergraduate Affairs and Dr. Mitra Taheri as Assistant Dean of Engineering for Research and Graduate Affairs.

Dr. Clyne will work closely with Dr. Adam Fontecchio, Associate Dean, to oversee the undergraduate enterprise for the College of Engineering. Dr. Clyne is presently the P. C. Chou Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics and Assistant Dean of Engineering for Faculty Development. The new appointment will give her a larger stage on which to operate and it will have the effect of off-loading some of the responsibilities of the Associate Dean.

The College of Engineering has more than 3,700 undergraduates spread over six academic departments with 11 different degree programs. The office of Undergraduate Affairs is responsible for the following programs:

  • Undergraduate Advising Center
  • The Drexel Engineering Curriculum (tDEC)
  • Student plans of study
  • Engineering Learning Communities
  • Peer Mentor Programs
  • 15 Undergraduate Student Organizations
  • Accelerated Degree Programs (BS/MD, BS/JD, BS/MS, BS/Ph.D.)
  • Engineering Entrepreneurial Activities
  • Engineers as Global Leaders for Energy Sustainability (EAGLES)

Dr. Mitra Taheri

In this capacity, Dr. Taheri will work with Dr. Anthony Lowman, Associate Dean, in the oversight of the vast research operations in the College.

The College of Engineering reported $38 million in research expenditures last year. We are on schedule to exceed that in the current year. The College of Engineering enrolls 1,220 graduate students; 787 full-time.
