Robert M. Koerner, PhD, Honored at 2016 GEO Conference

Dr. Robert M. Koerner, ’56, was recently honored at the 2016 Geo-Chicago Conference organized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-environmental Engineering Committee of the GEO-Institute. Highlighted were Dr. Koerner’s considerable contributions to the field of civil engineering along with his outstanding leadership within the geo-profession and the civil engineering community at large.

Koerner GEO Conference 2016Dr. Koerner’s interest in geosynthetics spans almost 35 years of teaching, research, publications and consulting, resulting in an understanding of the design and manufacture of hundreds of geosynthetic products worldwide. His work has also helped generations of educators, researchers, designers, manufacturers, and regulators address countless geo-environmental and civil engineering challenges.

The conference was held August 14-18. College of Engineering Dean Joseph B. Hughes and Ms. Lauren Gentzler, Development Major Gifts Officer for the College of Engineering, were in attendance. Dr. Koerner was honored by a presentation of a series of papers from former students, colleagues, practitioners, manufacturers and researchers.

The Geo-Institute (G-I) is a specialty membership organization focused on geo-professionals and the geo-industry, and is one of the American Society of Civil Engineers' eight specialty Institutes. The Geo-Institute currently has over 11,500 individual and 65 organizational members.
