Computer Science Welcome Message

Spiros MancoridisThe Department of Computer Science (CS) emphasizes both interdisciplinary and applied research, and our programs are widely recognized as some of the best in the nation.  Our gaming program, in particular, was recently ranked number three in the nation by The Princeton Review’s list of the “Top 50 Undergraduate Game Design Programs.”  The department remains a dynamic and engaging environment due to the outstanding nature of our faculty, staff and students. CS graduates are placed in high paying jobs and are regularly recognized by Computer Research Associates (CRA) for their research contributions.  More than a third of our faculty members are now CAREER award recipients.

With support by major federal research grants from NSF, DARPA, ONR, DoD, DoE, DoJ and NIST, as well as private sources, CS remains active in research, with expenditures of $3.2M in 2009.  The Applied Communications and Information Networking (ACIN) program, run jointly with ECE and a wide range of industrial partners, has the potential to become a model in interdisciplinary and applied computing research.  To learn more about our department, please visit the Computer Science website.
