All first-time freshman applicants with complete admission applications on file by January 15 will be automatically reviewed for the academic-achievement A.J. Drexel Scholarship in amounts up to $26,000.

Admission Deadlines for Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Freshman applicants who have decided that the Westphal College is their top choice can apply early and receive an admission decision sooner in the admission process. A complete application is due December 1. Early Action applicants will receive a decision beginning mid-January. If you are admitted, you have until May 1 to fully explore Drexel and confirm your intention to enroll. If you do not receive admission, your application will be deferred to the regular decision process. This is a nonbinding Early Action program. The regular admission deadline for freshman applicants to Westphal programs is March 1. Regular decision applicants will receive a decision six to eight weeks after their application is complete.

Transfer Admission Deadlines

The application deadlines for transfer applicants vary depending on the term in which you wish to enroll.

Note: The Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Chemistry, Physics, Radiologic Technology, Software Engineering (ISE program code only), and Nursing Co-op programs only admit transfer students in the fall. The College of Information Science and Technology admits transfer students in the fall and winter terms. Students cannot transfer into Music Industry, full-time Architecture program, or programs for Still-Deciding Students®. Nursing ACE and Radiologic Technology applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a continuous basis.

International Application Checklist

Drexel takes into consideration a number of criteria when determining admission, including your high school performance, letters of recommendation, and essay.

  1. Undergraduate Admission Application
    Complete an application for Undergraduate Admission. We prefer you apply online to Drexel. You may submit either: If you do not wish to apply online, you may download and print either: You may only submit one application. To expedite the application process, please write your full name (no nicknames, please) on all items submitted. If you need to change your major after submitting your application, please contact Undergraduate Admissions at enroll@drexel.edu,1-800-2-DREXEL or 1-215-895-2400.

  2. Application Fee, $75 (waived if you apply on campus or online)

  3. Essay
    All applicants (except Nursing ACE and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants) must submit a 1- to 2-page essay online. We cannot accept essays submitted on paper.

    Westphal College of Media Arts & Design applicants: Relate your essay topic to your interest in your intended major. If you are applying to an accelerated degree program in the Westphal College, your essay topic should relate to your selected major and indicate why you are a good candidate for the program.

    Accelerated degree applicants: You should describe the factors that influenced your decision to pursue an accelerated degree in your chosen profession. Note: International students are ineligible to apply for the BA/BS/JD, BA/BS/MD, BS/PhD in Engineering, or BS/DPT in Physical Therapy 3+3.

    All other applicants: You may write about why you are interested in your choice of major or you may write on any subject you choose.

  4. Transcripts
    All international applicants
    are required to submit an official academic record (with notarized English translation) from every secondary or post-secondary school attended. A transcript is official only when it is sent directly from an institution to Undergraduate Admissions, or when it is officially signed, stamped in color, and sealed. You may print the Transcript Request Form [PDF] and use it to request official transcripts from your school counselor and/or registrar.

    All Nursing ACE, RN-BSN Degree Completion, and Radiologic Technology applicants who have coursework from an institution outside of the United States — except study abroad — must have their transcripts evaluated by one of three agencies:
    World Education Services (WES)
    International Consultants of Delaware
    Educational Credential Evaluators

    Transfer Students: Transfer applicants must submit transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended. Syllabus/course descriptions must accompany transcripts for evaluation of transfer credits.

    If you have completed fewer than 24 credits at the time of application, you must also submit an official copy of your secondary school transcript.

    Note: Radiologic Technology applicants are required to submit a high school transcript regardless of the number of completed college credits.


  5. Letters of Recommendation
    Two letters of recommendation are required. At least one form must be completed by a high school counselor. Recommendations on official letterhead will also be accepted. Print the Recommendation Forms [PDF].
    Note:Nursing ACE and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants are not required to submit recommendations.

    Transfer Students: Letters of recommendation are not required.


  6. Standardized Test Scores
    All applicants (except as indicated below) must take at least one of the following: SAT, TOEFL, or IELTS if your native language is not English. International applicants with both SAT and TOEFL or IELTS scores are considered more competitive candidates. Results must be forwarded to Admissions. All students should use the following codes to send score reports to Drexel: SAT 2194 or TOEFL 2194. For more information please visit CollegeBoard (SAT), Educational Testing Services (TOEFL), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

    All Nursing ACE, BSN Co-op, and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants
    : All Nursing ACE, BSN Co-op, and RN-BSN applicants: Applicants born outside of the United States are required to take the TOEFL examination. Applicants can be waived from the TOEFL if the applicant was born on a U.S. military base or has completed four years of high school and has a high school diploma from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, or Ireland.
    Passing test scores:
    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum combined score of 79 and a 26 score or higher in the speaking section.
    OR
    • TOEFL paper-based exam: Total score of 550 and the Test of Spoken English (TSE) exam with a minimum score of 55.

    Transfer Students: If you have completed 24 or more college credits you are not required to submit standardized test scores. Otherwise, you must take either the SAT, TOEFL, or IELTS and request that the results be forwarded to Undergraduate Admissions. All students should use the following codes to send score reports to Drexel: SAT 2194, TOEFL 2194.


  7. Portfolio (Fashion Design, Photography, and Graphic Design applicants only)
    You are required to submit a sample of your creative work including drawings, paintings, photographs, or other visual materials. Your portfolio must be submitted online at HighSchoolPortfolios.com.
    All work submitted becomes part of the application.

  8. Audition (Dance applicants only)
    Dance applicants are required to audition. Visit the Westphal College Dance website for more information.

  9. Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant Program (Optional)
    A $250 grant is awarded annually to enrolling undergraduates who have been recommended by a Drexel alumnus/a or trustee. Print the Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant form [PDF], complete the top portion of this form, and give it to the person providing your endorsement. The form must be postmarked by February 1 for students applying to the fall term.

    Note: Nursing ACE, RN-BSN Degree Completion, and Radiologic Technology applicants are not eligible for Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant.

  10. Proof of Financial Responsibility
    Proof of financial responsibility for students who are not United States citizens or permanent residents is required to obtain a student visa. All documents must be notarized and written in English. You must complete and submit the Financial Certification Form [PDF] and at least one of the following documents:
    • A current official bank letter in either your name or your sponsor's name. The signature of the bank official must attest to the amount of funds available in the account.
    • A non-Drexel scholarship award letter in your name. Enclose a signed letter or affidavit of support giving full details regarding the promise of support, and the specific amount of money in U.S. dollars.

    Transfer Students: International Transfer applicants who have a valid I-20 form must submit the International Student Transfer Form [PDF]. Note: Nursing ACE, Radiologic Technology, and RN-BSN Degree Completion program applicants are not required to submit this form.
