A Computer and Electrical Engineering major, Gyanam provided systems support to his department at Siemens Medical Solutions.
Gyanam Hazarika is no stranger to change, and Drexel University has afforded him the opportunities to make the changes he wants in his life. Born and raised in New Delhi, India, this Indian Students Association vice president and USGA senator chose Drexel because of its renowned co-operative education program. "The co-op experience is awesome, being able to build your résumé while you're still in college."
Gyanam's first co-op was with Siemens Medical Solutions, one of the largest suppliers of imaging equipment and medical applications software in the world. "I was a systems analyst, providing systems support for my internal office. I enjoyed working for a small department within a large company. It was also nice to work alongside another Drexel Co-op student."
For many students, Drexel Co-op is an opportunity to get hands-on experience in their chosen field. For others, Drexel Co-op is a chance to narrow down possible career paths. While Gyanam loved his first co-op, it also gave him insight into what he wants to do next. "I would definitely prefer a co-op that's more related to the hardware aspect than the software. This co-op helped me realize that I didn't want to do software engineering."
Drexel also helped Gyanam to realize his goal of attending college in America. You would think being so far away from home for the first time would be hard, but not for Gyanam. "As vice president of the Indian Students Association and as an Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA) senator I get to know a lot of different people. Now I have friends from all over the world."
