Senior Anthony Perry, diving for a gold medal at the 2004 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
While some students are athletes who earn a degree, others bear down on classwork so they can exceed academically. Anthony Perry decided he wanted to do both.
Successfully balancing the blackboard with the springboard, Anthony has garnered a slew of diving awards during his four years at Drexel. One of only five students honored by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with the conference's Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2003-04 winter sports season, Anthony is also a multiple recipient of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award. He also placed first in the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions at the 2004 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships, and was named Men's Outstanding Diver of that meet.
"Drexel's commitment to both athletics and academics really impressed me," Anthony recalls. "While academics do come first here, the athletic programs are exceptionally competitive. It's a perfect balance.
A close proximity to center city Philadelphia was another plus for Anthony.
"Philly definitely becomes part of your campus; I used to study on the steps of the Art Museum. And there's just so much to do here. People always seem to forget how centrally located this city is. You're an hour from the beach, two from New York. Its all here if you look for it."
A senior Marketing major, Anthony has just finished his third co-op right here at Drexel, conducting tours and presentations for the Admissions Department.
"As someone who has been a student, an athlete, and now an employee of Drexel, I have a rather unique insight into what makes this place tick. I love seeing what Drexel is becoming, and doing all I can to make it that much better for future students."
