International Students

There's no denying that graduate education in the United States is an expensive investment — but it's a worthwhile one: On average, workers with an advanced degree earn nearly 50 percent more annually than those with just an undergraduate degree.

International students are not eligible for most U.S. government-sponsored loan and scholarship programs, but some private loan programs do exist.

Academic departments and individual faculty members with research grants can sometimes provide scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships to international graduate students. Each department has its own criteria for awarding this financial assistance, so it is best to contact the college you're thinking of attending to find the appropriate departmental contact. Be sure to also review the Financing Options section for each college.
