Test of English as a Foreign Language


Schedule

The test is given at least four times a year, usually in the eighth week of each ELC term. It is generally held between 4:00-7:00 p.m. Call the ELC (215-895-2022) to find out the next date. Planned future dates, with exact dates, times, and places to be determined:

Monday, Aug. 4
Wednesday, Nov. 12 OR Thursday, Nov. 13


Cost

$50 for ELC students / $60 for others



Location

The test is given on the Drexel campus. About one week before the test, you will receive a letter with information about the exact time and location. You can also call the ELC (215-895-2022) to find the location.



To Register
  1. Registration must be done in person at the ELC Front Desk of the ELC (229 N. 33rd St). Payment must be received to reserve a space.
  2. If no spaces are available, students will be placed on a waiting list once payment is received.
  3. Students on the waiting list should come to the test. Once all other test takers have entered, the proctors will call names on the waiting list in the order of registration.
  4. Students on the waiting list whose names are not called for the test will be issued a full refund.
  5. Other refunds will only be issued for cancellations received at least one day before the test.


Preparing for the Test
  1. Register for the TOEFL Preparation special topic class at the ELC.
  2. Practice at the Drexel University Language Lab, located in McAlister Hall, Room 2021. There are study tapes and books with sample questions and exercises.
  3. Practice with study guides that can be purchased at most major bookstores, including the Drexel University Bookstore.


Taking the Test

The test is given in a single session lasting about 2 1/2 hours. There are three sections: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Vocabulary/Reading Comprehension.
  • In order to be admitted to the test, bring your admission letter and a current picture ID . No one will be allowed to take the test without a current ID.
  • Bring 3-4 #2 pencils.
  • Bring a sweater in case the room is cold.
  • Arrive early.
  • Wait outside the test center until you are told to enter.
  • When you enter, listen to the test monitor for directions about where to sit.


Scores

Individual score reports are available at the ELC in about 2 weeks. These can be picked up at the Front Desk or mailed to your current address.

The scores are reported only to the Drexel University International Admissions Office. They are not valid anywhere else.
