About the Test
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills listening, reading, writing and speaking. IELTS is jointly managed by British Council, IDP; IELTS Australia; and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) through more than 500 locations in 120 countries and is designed for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.

For extensive information about the IELTS exam,
see: http://www.ielts.org/candidates.aspx

For specific information for candidates,
see: http://www.ielts.org/PDF/Information_for_Candidates_2007.pdf

There are two versions of the IELTS tests: Academic and General Training. All candidates take the same listening and speaking tests, but the reading and writing modules are different. It is important to take the correct version.
