General Information on the Engineering Management Program

Core Areas and Subject Areas

To earn the M.S. Engineering Management, students must complete 33 core credits (11 courses) and 15 elective credits (5 courses).  The required core courses are focused in three subject areas: Management and Leadership, Financial Strategy, and Quantitative Analysis.  Students also have a choice of 12 total elective courses in areas such as Marketing and Business Development, Project Management, Systems Engineering, and Engineering Law and Ethics.  Course descriptions, prerequisites, and required textbooks can be found in the Engineering Management Course Catalog.

***The core course EGMT 571 (Quantitative Analysis Sequence) is a required prerequisite for EGMT 572, but it does NOT count towards the required 33 core credits.  If a student wishes to waive EGMT 571, they must show that they have taken an equivalent course previously, and they must take the Managerial Statistics Exam which is administered by the Engineering Management Program in Spring term.  Contact the department for more information on registering for the exam.

Plan of Study (POS)

All students entering the Engineering Management program must file an approved MS Plan of Study.  The plan of study must be filed as early as possible but no later than the start of the student's second term of study.  Any changes or deviations from this plan of study that may affect the fulfillment of degree requirements must be approved in writing, in advance, by filing a new or modified plan of study.  Failure to file a Plan of Study and failure to obtain prior written approval to make changes in it may result in non-acceptance of the un-approved courses fulfilling degree requirements.
