Drexel University is the first university in the country to commit to using Green Globes®, the Green Building Initiative's™ (GBI) independent environmental impact monitoring system, comprehensively through university policy, for all new construction and existing campus buildings.
Green Globes is a web-enabled green building management tool that includes an assessment protocol, rating system and a framework of guidance for integrating environmentally friendly design and operation into buildings. A third-party independent assessment process is completed one year after occupancy, and results in a ranking based on Green Globes metrics.
Demonstrating the University’s commitment to transparency, status reports of assessments are posted online.
In 2005, GBI became the first green building organization to be accredited as a standards developer by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and began the process of establishing Green Globes as the first American National Standard for commercial green building. GBI's mission is to accelerate the adoption of building practices that result in energy-efficient, healthier and environmentally sustainable buildings by promoting credible and practical green building approaches for construction.
