Placement Exams and Your Fall Course Schedule
Your academic advisor cannot develop your fall schedule until you complete your placement exam(s). The goal of these exams is to ensure that you are placed into courses for which you are well-prepared. Because the knowledge you've attained in a particular subject area may vary depending on your previous studies, the placement exams present an opportunity to tailor-fit your freshman courses according to your skill level.
Placement Exam Deadline
The placement exams for the incoming fall freshman class open on Monday, May 9, 2016.
You must complete your exam(s) by Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Please note: It is crucial that you complete your required placement exam(s) by the deadline so that your academic advisor can develop your course schedule for the fall.
Required Placement Exams for Your Major
As an incoming freshman, you are required to take the placement exams that are predetermined by major. To see which exams you are required to complete, log in to DrexelOne. In the left column you will see a channel called "New Student Checklist." Beginning on May 4, 2016, when you expand the checklist item "Placement Exams," you will see your list of required exams.
How to Opt into Modern Language Placement Exams
If you wish to opt into a Modern Language placement exam because you intend on taking a language course, please contact your academic advisor.
How to Complete Your Placement Exam(s)
Note: If you believe you will need an accommodation (such as extended time) due to a disability, you must register with the Office of Disability Resources (ODR) prior to taking your exams. You will be asked to provide necessary medical documentation along with a completed Request for Accommodations Form [PDF] and speak with an ODR staff member regarding your request. We suggest that you contact ODR as soon as possible, as the process may take some time. The Office of Disability Resources can be contacted at 215.895.1401 (phone); 215.895.1402 (fax); or via email at email@example.com.
You will need to obtain your official Drexel University account in order to access your placement exams. If you have not done so already, please pick up your account now by visiting Drexel's Information Resources and Technology (IRT) New Accounts page. Once you have your Drexel User ID (e.g., abc12) and password, please proceed to Step 2.
It is important to verify that your computer is properly configured to take the placement exams. According to Information Resources and Technology, you can verify that your web browser is compatible with the system we use for placement exams, Blackboard Learn, by:
- Using a valid web browser
- Ensuring Java is installed/up-to-date
- Turning off pop-up blockers
Please set aside 90 minutes before taking each placement exam. We strongly urge you to utilize a desktop or laptop computer, not a mobile device. Also, please make sure you have a reliable Internet connection. Once an exam is accessed, a timer will begin to count down whether you remain in the testing platform or not.
When you are ready to take your exam(s), please log in to DrexelOne. In the left column you will see a channel called "New Student Checklist." Expand the checklist item "Placement Exams," to access your required exams. All exams should be completed by the June 30 deadline.
