Energy/Environment
In both research and operations, Drexel committed to leadership in climate stabilization and environmental stewardship. The academic enterprise promotes sustainability initiatives including:
- Engineering Cities, which pursues the creation of environmentally sustainable urban habitats
- Drexel Smart House, a student-led project to explore new urban home design and technology
- The Ecology, Earth and Environmental Science Research Group, with work ranging from mechanisms of ecological processes to applied conservation
Under the University-wide Drexel Green initiative, Drexel has:
- Signed the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment
- Deceased its carbon footprint from 34,990 metric tons in 2010 to 7,880 in 2011 by using 100 percent wind-generated power
- Adopted green building standards
- Reduced water consumption and increased recycling
