Deaf or Hard of Hearing Services
In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and applicable federal and state laws, Drexel University ensures people with disabilities will have an equal opportunity to participate in its programs and activities. Members and guests of the Drexel community who are deaf or hard of hearing need to register with the Office of Disability Services (ODS), if requesting auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services to participate in Drexel University’s programs and activities. All requests for reasonable and appropriate auxiliary aids and services will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Due to the need for facilitation and coordination of services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, advance notices for requests is necessary for the timely provision of services. For additional information regarding requesting accommodations, go to: Requesting Auxiliary Aids, Accommodations, and Services. For additional information regarding registering with ODS for receipt of auxiliary aids due to hearing loss or deafness, go to: Registering with the Office of Disability Services.
People with disabilities are also encouraged to seek external academic and personal support from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation/Blind & Visual Services (OVR). OVR may be able to assist those with disabilities with a variety of issues. People with disabilities do not incur a cost for accommodations that have been determined appropriate and reasonable by ODS.
When an accommodation has been requested, and it is determined that service providers are a reasonable and appropriate accommodation, it is listed in the student’s Accommodation Verification Letter (AVL). When sharing the AVL with the faculty, staff member, or supervisor, people with disabilities are encouraged to share the information in a confidential manner. For additional information about confidentiality, go to: Confidentiality.
