Frequently Asked Questions

What is the benefit of a Meal Plan?

A meal plan saves you the time it would take to shop, prepare, and clean up. Not to mention it offers you a much wider variety of great foods and great places to meet and socialize with friends. Let’s face it, at first, the idea of cooking yourself may seem like a good, cost effective way to eat during the term, however, it will become time consuming and monotonous after a few weeks. Plus, you don’t need to worry about having cash to make a purchase.

How do I sign up for a meal plan or dining service funds?
First Year Resident Students sign up for their meal plan when they complete the housing and dining agreement. Off-campus housing students, Commuter students and Center City Campus Students, including Upperclass Resident Students, will need to complete a meal plan contract, available in the DragonCard Office located in Room 124 of the Creese Student Center and online at www.drexel.edu/dragoncard. Meal plans are billed directly to the student account, while dining funds require payment upfront in the form of cash, check, or credit card.

What are Meal Plan Dollars?
Meal Plan Dollars allow you to make "cashless" purchases at any of the Drexel Dining Services locations. Meal Plan Dollars are placed into a stored value account which permits purchases by simply presenting your Drexel University Student ID, the DragonCard. The amount of your purchase is automatically deducted from your account. You receive your account balance each time a transaction is made or by request at any Drexel Dining Services location. Meal Plan Dollars do not rollover from term to term. Any unused dollars at the end of the term will be forfeited. For more information on the DragonCard policies and Meal Plan Dollars, you may call the DragonCard office at 215-895-6095 or visit suite 124 in the Creese Student Center.

How are the meals tracked for the 5 and 9 Meals per Week Plans?
Your weekly meal plan allotment renews every Friday morning at 7:00 am. There are no restrictions to how you enjoy your meals at Handschumacher. If you use all of your current week's meal allotment, you may continue to dine at Handschumacher by using your Meal Plan Dollars, Cash or Dragon Dollars. Unused meals from a previous week are not carried over to the next week. Only the student who has purchased the meal plan may use the meals on the meal plan.

How can I find out the daily menu for the Dining Hall?
We have a menu telephone hotline that lists the daily menu. You can call menu hotline at 215-895-MENU (6368). We also have the menus and other Dining Service information available on this website www.drexel.edu/dining.

What if I require a special diet?
Special dietary needs should be brought to the attention of the Dining Services staff so that you are accommodated appropriately. Please call or write to the Dining Services management team to inform us about any special diets, or other needs. Dining Services provides students with information that is helpful in selecting the foods that meet with each individual's dietary needs.

Nutritional information is available to answer basic questions regarding cholesterol, fat detail, calorie, and sodium content of many foods offered in the dining facilities. We also employ a Registered Dietician who is available to consult and meet with those individuals that may require a special diet. Students requesting special accommodation for food allergies and medical conditions must contact the Office of Disability Services prior to the beginning of the term at 215-895-1401.
