Am I required to be on a dining plan?
All first year resident students are required to be on the Platinum, Gold, or Blue Dining Plan.

What types of dining plans are available?

Platinum Plan
$1,692 per term

12 meals per week at the Handschumacher Dining Center and the Take3! Program
+ $550 Dining Dollars

Gold Plan
$1,620 per term

Unlimited meals at the Handschumacher Dining Center and the Take3! Program
+ $200 Dining Dollars

Blue Plan
$1,620 per term

12 meals per week at the Handschumacher Dining Center and the Take3! Program
+ $475 Dining Dollars

NEW for 2009/2010 You Call It Plans! Unlike the traditional meal plan where meals are allocated on a weekly basis and can only be used by the student, You Call It meals are valid throughout the term and can be used for guests.

What are Dining Dollars?
Dining Dollars are tax free dollars associated with your dining plan that can be used for à la carte purchases at any of the on campus dining locations. All Dining Dollars must be used by the end of each term.

What are Dining Dollars a la Carte?
Dining Dollars à la Carte are available for purchase independent of dining plans. It is a tax-free, declining balance account accessed through your DragonCard. You save 8% when spending Dining Dollars instead of cash at all Drexel Campus Dining locations. When purchasing Dining Dollars à la Carte, the more you buy, the more BONUS dollars you will receive!

     $250-$499 Dining Dollars à la Carte 7% Bonus
     $500 + Dining Dollar à la Carte 9% Bonus

Where can I sign up for a dining plan?
You may sign up for a dining plan and dining dollars a la carte at the DragonCard Office located in the Creese Student Center (3210 Chestnut Street), phone: 215-895-6095. There is an application form located at drexel.edu/dragoncard.

How can I find out the daily menu for Handschumacher Dining Center?

Can I change or cancel my dining plan?
Dining Plans cannot be changed or cancelled after the second week of each term. After the second week, plan cancellations may only be granted when the student officially withdraws from the University.

To make any changes, please visit or call the DragonCard Office located in the Creese Student Center (3210 Chestnut Street), phone: 215-895-6095.

Will my Dining Dollars/Dining Dollars a la Carte balance roll over from one term to the next?
Dining Dollars expire at the end of each term. Dining Dollars a la Carte do not expire; refunds are granted when you graduate or withdraw from the University.

How do I keep track of my Dining Dollars/Dining Dollars a la Carte? What should I do if my funds run low?
Each time you purchase a food or beverage on campus, your Dining Dollars/Dining Dollars al la Carte remaining balance is displayed on the register. You may also ask a cashier at any time to tell you how many Dining Dollars are in your account.

If your balance runs low, you can purchase Dining Dollars a la Carte by visiting or calling the DragonCard Office located in the Creese Student Center (3210 Chestnut Street), phone: 215-895-6095.

Can I take food out of the Handschumacher Dining Center?
The dining center is an “all you care to eat” facility. Students and guests are not permitted to take food, beverages, or china out of the Dining Center.

However, the Take3! Program at Ross Commons does allow you to take food out. It is an alternate use of a meal swipe when you can't make it to the Handschumacher Dining Center. Choose an Entrée, a Side, and a Beverage, one meal will be deducted from your dining plan for each Take 3! Meal.

How will my special dietary needs be accommodated?
Students who require a special diet due to allergies or medical reasons can speak with our Executive Chef or our General Manager to consult with you and discuss options.

Does Drexel Campus Dining keep kosher?
Drexel Offers a Kosher Option dining plans which includes dinner for Seder on March 30, 2010 and kosher lunches and dinners from March 30, 2010 through April 06, 2010. The Kosher Option dining plan cannot be canceled after January 11, 2010.

Resident Students who keep a strict kosher diet and wish to be released from the mandatory dining plan must contact Retail Management at 215.895.6187 prior to the beginning of the term.

Where can I find nutritional information for the food served on campus?
Nutritional information is available on location or on-line for your convenience. It is posted on location alongside each menu item at the Handschumacher Dining Center via product identification cards. Additional information is available on-line at balancemindbodysoul.com such as our “Balance Mind, Body and Soul” Program, a nutrition calculator, a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator and our “My Pyramid Dining Planner”. You may also email your questions to our Registered Dietician, Roxanne Moore, MS, RD, at Roxanne.Moore@sodexo.com.

Does Drexel Campus Dining have a nutrition program?
Prepared menu items at Handschumacher Dining Center feature product identification cards highlighting nutritional information. The “Balanced Way” feature at Handschumacher Dining Center educates students towards an overall balanced approach to eating.

Drexel Campus Dining offers an overall wellness and awareness program for the community, called “Balanced Mind Body Soul” to provide a forum for customized nutritional calculations, food pyramid education and BMI calculations. Students can also ask questions directly to our Registered Dietician, Roxanne Moore, MS, RD, at Roxanne.Moore@sodexo.com.

What do I do if I have a problem, comment or suggestion?
Drexel Campus Dining welcomes your feedback and would love to hear from you! There are several ways that you may contact us. Most directly, we encourage you to TALK TO US!! Come visit us at the Concierge Desk located at the entrance of the Handschumacher Dining Center or speak to a Supervisor in any dining location. You may also fill out a comment card at any of our locations.

Are catering services available to students?
Chestnut Street Caterers provides student organizations with an affordable catering service for any event. For more information, call 215-895-0291 or visit the Chestnut Street Caterers site.

Is there a dining plan for Graduate Students?
All of our dining plans are available to Drexel Graduate Students. Visit the Meal Plans page for additional information.

Can I use Dining Dollars/Dining Dollars a la Carte to eat off campus?
Dining Dollars/Dining Dollars a la Carte may only be used at on-campus dining locations.

What should I do if I lose my DragonCard?
Immediately report the lost or stolen card to the DragonCard Office by calling 215-895-6095. The card will be deactivated to prevent unauthorized use. There is a $20 fee to replace your lost, stolen or damaged card.

Does Drexel have any sustainability programs for Campus Dining?
Drexel Campus Dining offer several sustainability programs including a Refillable Mug program and Trayless Dining.

Refillable Mugs
16 oz refillable coffee mugs are available for an initial price of $9.99 with coffee refills for $0.99. Please visit Creese Café or ThirtyOne41 to get started!

Trayless Dining
Last April, students completed four days of “Trayless Tuesdays” and kept approximately 3,550 lbs of food waste out of landfills* and conserved approximately 3,236 gallons of water*. If the Handschumacher Dining Center operated without trays for an entire year, an estimated 290,964 pounds of food waste could be kept out of landfills. Thank you to all of those students that remembered the earth & forgot the tray!

In addition to reducing food waste and conserving water, trayless dining also:

  • Reduces the use of chemicals
  • Reduces costs
  • Promotes healthier eating habits

Are there Vegan and Vegetarian dining options on campus?
Drexel Campus Dining offers a variety of vegetarian options at all locations. The Handschumacher Dining Center features a full salad bar and vegan/vegetarian station during lunch and dinner.
