Policies

Drexel University General Services & Parking Building

General Policy

The Department of Drexel Parking Services is located at 34th and Market Streets in the lobby of the General Services and Parking Garage Facility. Parking Office business hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. During the first week of class each term, additional evening hours are provided from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

  1. Parking is a privilege which can be revoked by the Parking Director.
  2. All parking credentials issued by the Department of Parking Services remain the sole property of Drexel University and must be returned to the Parking Office when expired. Credentials not returned will be noted and no future permit will be issued to those who fail to return a gate card.
  3. All lost or stolen parking permits will be replaced for $20.00.
  4. All persons utilizing Drexel University parking facilities may be required to show proper identification; refusal to comply may result in non-admittance. A valid Drexel ID is required in order to purchase a term permit and/or daily pass.
  5. When necessary, any vehicle on University property may be towed away, booted, or relocated to another location as determined by the Parking Office.
  6. Car Pools are encouraged and provided for by the Department of Parking Services. If more than one vehicle is to use a permit, each driver and vehicle must be recorded on the parking parking permit sales contract. The permit furnished must be displayed on the passenger side lower corner of the front windshield. Vehicles must be registered to participate in a car pool, and only one car pool vehicle may use the pool permit hangtag on any given day.
  7. All student term parking permits are valid on the first day of class for the term designated. Each term parking permit expires as printed on the permit. All employee permits begin and end on a monthly basis. Academic year permits are valid from fall term through summer term.
  8. Except for evening parking permits, all full time parking permits are valid 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including holidays. Expired permits are never valid.
  9. A parking registration program will require a person without a valid Drexel parking permit to register with the Parking Office each vehicle driven onto the campus property. There is no charge to register a vehicle, but a parking parking permit sales contract must be completed. Student and employees who purchased a permit will automatically be registered. If registration information changes it is the responsibility of the owner or operator to update the registration with the parking office. Unregistered vehicles on campus property may be ticketed and towed at owner's expense.

Co-op Student Permit Extensions

A student on a co-operative education assignment may extend the term parking permit privilege through term break by taking the following steps:

Note: Students who renew their term permit and make payment prior to the renewal payment deadline are granted the extension at no charge for seamless services through the next term and need not exercise the extension policy.

  1. Contact the Parking Office by e-mail at parking@drexel.edu with your Name, Drexel ID#, and Co-op advisor's name, requesting the term break parking extension.
  2. The Parking Office must receive the request by 5:00 pm on Friday of the seventh week of the academic term.
  3. Upon verification of co-op status, the extension will be granted via a reply to your e-mail.
Those who are granted the extension but do not renew permit parking for the following term, will have their parking permit end at 11:59 PM the Sunday before the first day of class for the succeeding term.

Metered and Permit Surface Lots

Metered Lots
Metered Lots A and E are enforced for payment ($1.00 per hour) Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Meter violations are not enforced on Sunday. All other parking policies are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The meters can be activated for maximum 4 hour period. To stay longer, return before the meter expires and deposit an additional amount. The regulations on metered lots are vigorously enforced.

Permit Surface Lots
Permit surface lots are vigorously enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Permits for surface lots are valid only for the lot and term designated. Display of a parking permit is required to park on a designated surface lot. All others will be booted or towed.

Motorcycles, Mopeds, and Bicycles

Motorcycle and moped operators may utilize the Drexel Parking Garage for a cost of one half the garage term permit rate. A sticker is issued which is affixed to the rear fender. They must park in the designated area and display the permit sticker.

There is a parking site with rails at the east end of the Creese Student Center for motorcycles and mopeds at no charge. It can accommodate 10 motorcycles or mopeds and a sticker is not required.

Motorcycles, mopeds, or any motorized vehicles are prohibited from parking at or near bicycle racks.

Bicycles may use the bike racks located throughout the campus. The racks offer maximum security if properly locked.

Motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles are not permitted to be parked and locked to campus poles, trees, fences, railings, or meters, nor be parked on grassy areas walkways, sidewalks, or in buildings. Motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles in violation of the regulations may be towed, immobilized, impounded, or confiscated. In addition to a towing charge ($125) or boot fee ($80), a fine of $40 must be paid to retrieve property. Any chains or locks that are damaged as a result of such confiscation are the responsibility of the offending violator (owner or operator) and not Drexel University.

Garage Policy

Students and employees may purchase a term permit to park in the Drexel Parking Garage. Authorized visitors, students and employees access the garage only as pre-authorized guests on a limited basis, by way of a processed Parking Services Request Form.

Compact vehicles may only park in compact spaces in the garage located on level A. Both compact and full size vehicles may park on Levels B, C & D. Vehicles measuring 66" wide or less, and 192" long or less, are considered compact. Full size vehicles are those which exceed either dimension. This allows for optimum use of the garage space for the greatest number of vehicles.

Parking Garage permits are only valid in the Drexel Parking Garage and only for the designated term.

When entering or exiting the garage Drexel reserves the right to verify and examine any term permit and/or access card. Permits must be displayed prominently upon entry, exit, and when parked in the garage.

Garage Hours of Operation
The Drexel Parking Garage is open from 6:45AM to 11:00PM Monday through Friday, and 7:00AM to 7:00PM on Saturday. The garage is closed all other hours, including Sundays and Holidays.

Parking Permit Refund Policy

Parking Permit Sales Contract:
Parking permits are sold through a license agreement.

The customer agrees to park where licensed and to display the parking permit as designated inside vehicle; that Drexel University is not responsible for fire, theft of or vandalism to, vehicle or content contained therein; and parking on University facilities will be at vehicle owner's risk. STUDENT CANCELLATION POLICY
Request for Release from Parking Permit Sales Contract (Cancellation): In all cases, a Refund Request form for Release must be submitted to the Parking Services Office. If approved, releases will be effective the date that the request is approved.

  1. Pre-Approved Reasons
    The following reasons are approved for release provided the customer submits the Refund Request form.
    1. Not Attending University – First-year students and transfers must notify the Parking Services Office directly in writing that they will not be enrolling in Drexel University.
    2. Academic Withdrawal from the University – A student who withdraws from the University for academic reasons must submit an Undergraduate Day Withdraw Form from his/her academic college or the Student Resource Center.
    3. Co-op Outside the Area – Students taking a cooperative assignment where on campus parking is not needed. Verification with coop advisor is required.
    4. Study Abroad – Students must submit documentation from the Study Abroad Office.
    5. Taking a Quarter Off – If a student decides to take a term off by not registering for classes or co-op for any given term, the student must complete the Refund Request form and return the permit before the first day of class.
  2. All Other Reasons
    Other life issues and reasons submitted for the Refund Request will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Refund Schedule for Approved Student Requests:
When a Request for Release is approved the parking charges are refunded according to the following schedule:
100% refund – prior to the first day of classes.
75% refund – during the first week of classes.
50% refund – during the second week of classes.
25% refund – during the third week of classes.
No refund during or after the fourth week of classes.

EMPLOYEE CANCELLATION POLICY
Payroll Deduction:
Employees using the payroll deduction payment method must use the Parking Payroll Deduction form to request a Cessation from the Parking Permit Sales Contract. Forms must be submitted to the Parking Services Office.

  1. Payroll Deduction method – Deductions will cease on the termination date or be reconciled to the effective date if pre-approved.
  2. NON-Payroll Deduction: For other than payroll deduction payment methods employees must submit a Refund Request form to the Parking Services Office. If approved, releases will be effective the last working day of the month that the request was received, except where pre-approved arrangements have been made in advance.
  3. Non-Payroll Deduction/Prepaid Term Parking Permits:
    1. Pre-Approved Reasons will be prorated and reconciled to the approved effective date.
    2. Other Reasons will be prorated and reconciled to the last working day of the month.
  1. Pre-Approved Reasons The following reasons are approved for release provided the customer submits the Refund Request form.
    1. Leaving University Employ – Refunds will be prorated to the last day employed.
    2. Sabbatical – Faculty may arrange in advance an effective date for departure and choose to exercise the continuity policy to arrange an effective return date.
    3. FMLA – Employees on approved leave may arrange an effective date for departure and return.
  2. Other Reasons - Employees with other reasons must stop parking effective the last working day of the month.
