"We Could Have Come This Far ONLY By Faith"

In the Spring Term of 1978, Vashti "Tina" Gorham, a freshman at Drexel was asked by a group of her peers to organize and direct a gospel choir."Faith in action". After four weeks of rehearsing, a group of zealous and musically inclined students presented themselves by faith to the then Drexel Music Department. At that time The choir was under the leadership of the late Dr. Wallace Heaton. He heard them and by faith accepted them as the Drexel University Gospel Choir. Thus began our journey by faith.

God is Faithful ... He will never leave us!

The Lord blessed and increased the choir's ministry greatly. Engagements were accepted; additional musicians came on board; a board of officer's was created; and God extended his blessing. At one point the choir had nearly 100 members.

God is Almighty...God is Omnipotent!

Each Thursday evening when the Choir came together for rehearsal, it always included worshipping and praising the Lord through prayer, devotions, and Scriptures. "Thursday night services" led to an increased desire to serve God and the choir soon began a weekly prayer service and bible study. In 1992 a group of students from the choir formed a Bible Study group called Disciples in Deed. This organization is now an official Drexel Student Organization. These activities assist the choir in their desire to effectively communicate to a dying world that Jesus lives.

God is Independent...God is Sovereign!

But the choir has not only been effective as a college ministry, but after graduation many of the members were elevated in the Lord. We have pastors, ministers, evangelists, choir directors, teachers, trustees, deacons and other leaders in the church anointed by God.

God is Trustworthy . . He is Unfailing!

Since its founding the choir has been blessed with two anointed Directors, the founder Vashti "Tina" Gorham (1978 - 1985) and Gregory Ross (1985 ->present). In 1985 due to a change in her employment, Tina relocated to North Jersey. Upon her recommendation of Greg, and acceptance by the Department of Performing Arts, Greg became Choir Director. Because of its commitment to the Lord and the Choir, the ministry of the choir has been blessed tremendously.

God sent his Holy Spirit. . . To lead us and guide us.

The choir has traveled throughout the East Coast to render service. They have toured North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, New York, and Connecticut. This year the choir will tour in the Boston, Massachusetts area. The choir has also performed in the Philadelphia area at Super Sunday and the Crop Walk, both on the Benjamin Parkway, 30th Street Train Station, The Gallery at Market East, WPVI Variety Club Telethon, Billy Graham Crusade Prayer Service for College Students, Six Flags Great Adventure and the CoreStates /First Union Center and the Spectrum. The choir has performed On Drexel's Campus in addition to its concert at the end of each term, at the inaugurations of the last three presidents, convocations, and graduations. Additionally, there have been joint concerts with the Jazz Ensembles, the Root Beer Blast with the Drexel Christian Fellowship, Jesus Jam with the Disciples in Deed, and numerous other events.

After twenty -one years, our desire to lift the name of Jesus has not changed. As summarized from the words of the apostle Paul: We are pressing our way trying to be what God would have us to be. We sing,we shout, we preach, we pray, and we clap our hands for great is the Lord. We also want to encourage you to allow Christ to be whatever you need him to be in your life.

Peace! ... Love! ... Joy! ...Hope!

Find them all in him. We know what he can do based upon what he has already done, therefore we've come this far by faith looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Be encouraged. Walk in his excellent light.
