Asbury is always exploring ways to put our faith into action, not only through hands-on community service projects but through education, political advocacy and ongoing work for social change, PEACE with JUSTICE. STAY TUNED for updates about related opportunities and events!

Service / Volunteer Opportunities
Asbury sponsors ongoing projects (most are monthly) with a number of community-based nonprofit agencies in the Philadelphia area. In addition to participating in any of our group projects, students are welcome and encouraged to volunteer more often on their own--and if you're work-study eligible, we can also work with you to make community service your work study job (click here to learn more)!


Current opportunities include:


Habitat for Humanity - Saturdays, 8 am-4 pm (once or twice a term)
Location: Camden and other Philadelphia-area sites
Home rehab and new construction for first-time, low-income homeowners, working with several different Habitat for Humanity chapters in the area. No experience necessary. Tools and transportation provided. Maximum 10 volunteers. Contact Pastor Tim to sign up or for more info.

MANNA - 2nd Mondays only, 5-8 pm (beginning OCT 12)
Location: 23rd & Chestnut
Help prepare meals for homebound persons living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. Clothing requirements: closed shoes (no open-toed sandals, etc.), long pants and sleeved shirts (short or long). Maximum 8 volunteers. Contact Pastor Tim to sign up or for more info.


Upcoming dates: OCT 12, NOV 23 (PLEASE NOTE: we will not be meeting the 2nd Monday in November)


St. Francis Inn - 1st Fridays only, 10:30 am-1:45 pm (beginning OCT 2)
Location: Kensington (North Phila)
Be part of the service or clean-up teams providing a meal for homeless (and other low-income) folks at this restaurant-style soup kitchen. Timing includes travel to and from the site (tokens provided for subway). Maximum 5 volunteers. Contact Pastor Tim to sign up or for more info.

Philabundance - Saturdays (occasionally)
Location: North Phila
We don't currently have any ongoing projects at Philabundance though we do occasionally help out on Saturdays to sort donated food items for distribution to area shelters and other hunger relief agencies. Contact Pastor Tim for more info.

Project HOME - Saturdays (TBA)
Location: 42nd & Chestnut
We are in the process of beginning an ongoing project with Project HOME, helping with meal preparation and service at one of two transitional shelters (one for men and one for women) they operate in the city. STAY TUNED for updates! Contact Pastor Tim for more info.

Location: 35th & Haverford
We are also hoping to begin some one-time and ngoing projects at the West Philadelphia Community Center, just a few blocks from campus (operated by the Caring People Alliance). STAY TUNED for updates! Contact Pastor Tim for more info.
