Spring Move-Out for 2014-2015 Academic Year
Begin planning now for Move-Out in June! Students who do not have an assignment for Summer 2015 must move out within 24 hours of their last exam and no later than 10AM on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Graduating Seniors must move out no later than 10AM on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Students moving to a new room for Summer 2015 must move on Sunday, June 14, 2015 between 10AM and 2PM. Please read the information below carefully!
In mid-May 2015, University Housing will publish the annual "Closing Notice," which is sent to all resident students' Drexel e-mail account. This notice is personalized with your specific assignment situation and has detailed information on your housing assignment for Spring 2015 term, Summer 2015 term, and all associated move-out deadlines. If the information in your closing notice is incorrect, forward it to firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your specific situation.
Move-Out Dates and Times
Please read carefully below! All residence halls will close to students with no summer assignment on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10AM. Students must move out within 24 hours of their last exam and no later than 10AM on Saturday, June 13, 2015. The 10AM residence hall closing time will be strictly enforced. Students may move their belongings to the front lobby to wait for their parents or families, if needed. A late check-out fee of up to $400 may apply for students who fail to check-out by residence hall closing. Drexel University reserves the right to pack and ship any belongings left behind at students' expense. Failure to check out by 10AM on June 13 can be quite costly.
If you have a summer assignment that is different than your Spring assignment, you will Term Switch between 10AM and 2PM on Sunday, June 14, 2015. For more information on your specific term-switch time, please refer to the Move-Out notice sent to your Drexel email account.

If you are expecting a new roommate or suitemate: your room must be clean before 10AM on Saturday, June 13. This includes wiping down all surfaces, sweeping and/or vacuuming the floor. Place all trash in receptacles in the trash rooms. Please be aware that students who may not currently have a new roommate or suitemate for the summer term may receive one at any time, and should complete the above tasks as well.
You may incur damage charges if this is not completed. A list of common damages and their associated costs are available at the Vandalism Cost Schedule page. If an individual wants to claim responsibility for damage, please complete a "Damage Responsibility" form, otherwise the entire room/suite will be charged.
Students unable to move-out by the published move-out date and time should submit a "Request for Move Out/Term Switch Exception" form in Housing OnDemand as soon as you know you have a conflict, but no later than Friday, May 29, 2015. When accessing Housing OnDemand you will need to log in with your Drexel User ID and Password. All decisions will be communicated via your Drexel email account. Exceptions will only be granted for those with extenuating circumstances and based upon availability. Priority will be given to those participating in Commencement. Please note that exceptions for spring move out for other reasons are rare.
Graduating Seniors have until 10AM on June 14, 2015 to move out of their residence hall. This date will be reflected in your Closing Notice. NOTE: If you are a graduating senior and your move out time in your Closing Notice email is not June 14, 2015 you MUST contact the Office of University Housing.
Students who have Saturday Exams will be granted an extension. Students must submit a "Request for Move Out/Term Switch Exception" form in Housing OnDemand as soon as you know you have a conflict, but no later than Friday, May 29, 2015. When accessing Housing OnDemand you will need to log in with your Drexel User ID and Password. Once your exam date and time is verified, a response will be sent to your Drexel email account.
Damages and Lost Keys
All students are responsible for maintaining the condition of their suite and/or bedroom. Students may incur damage charges if the condition of their room does not match the documented condition they were presented with upon check in. A list of common damages and their associated costs are available at the Vandalism Cost Schedule page. If an individual of a living area wants to claim responsibility for damage, please complete a "Damage Responsibility " form, otherwise the entire room/suite may be charged.
Report lost keys to the front desk as soon as possible. Lost keys are charged at $75 per door for our residence halls. Costs may vary slightly for The Axis, University Crossings, and Stiles Hall. Keys will not be accepted via USPS. All keys must be returned via an Express Check Out envelope by the date of your move-out.
Forwarding your Mail
Please update your mailing address in DrexelOne, or your Drexel mail will not reach you, including, but not limited to, important housing announcements and any Drexel bills.
Contact all family, friends and creditors and supply them with your new mailing address. Mail sent to Drexel will be returned to sender and not forwarded off-campus. USPS Forwarding Orders do not work.
School Storage is a local company that specializes in storing college students' belongings for breaks, study abroad programs, co-ops, etc. Students electing to store their belongings over summer term will actually have their belongings picked up at their spring residence hall and delivered to their new hall in the fall! School Storage will even work with you to arrange shipping if needed!

Traffic and Parking
Drexel University will be holding Commencement ceremonies on June 11-13, 2015. Traffic and parking on our campus will be very tight during these two days and we strongly encourage our residential students to be mindful of the Commencement Schedules.
The Drexel University Parking Garage at 34th Street and Market Street is NOT available for residential students during the move-out process on June 11-13. Please plan accordingly.
Families visiting the University on Friday and Saturday should pay careful attention to all Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) and Drexel University Police Department (DUPD) signs and personnel who are assisting with the move-out process and Commencement. There may be street closures and revised traffic plans during this time period. Traffic and parking patterns are subject to change without notice. Always obey all posted traffic and parking signage. University Housing is not responsible for parking or traffic tickets issued by the Philadelphia Police Department or the Drexel University Policy Department at any time.
In general, University Housing advises parents and families to utilize the below map and directions.
Please note the following street designations for move out week:
- Between 33rd and 34th Streets, the following streets will be designated as short term parking (30 minutes) for move out week: Arch Street, Cherry Street, and the south side of Powelton Avenue. Overnight parking will not be permitted, and vehicles on Arch Street after June 9, 2015 are subject to towing. There will be no overnight parking allowed on these streets.
- Spangler Walk, the through sidewalk area with access adjacent to Van Rensselaer Hall, will be available for 30 minute parking for Van Rensselaer Hall and Millennium Hall residents. Enter this area from Powelton Avenue, heading South. There will be no overnight parking allowed on Spangler Walk. Exit Spangler Walk by turning left (west) onto Race Street and then left (south) onto 34th Street. Note that 34th Street is a One-Way Street, due south.
- Race Street between 33rd Street and 34th Street is generally closed to vehicular traffic. This street will be open from 8AM until 8PM during the closing week for 30 minute parking, and traffic will be allowed by entering the 33rd Street side only (NOT on 34th Street). There will be no overnight parking allowed on Race Street.
- Guests should access the residential campus via Market Street by turning North onto 33rd Street and then turning right into the "S" Lot at Caneris Hall (if moving in/out of Caneris Hall or University Crossings) or by turning left (West) on to Arch Street, Cherry Street, Race Street, or Powelton Avenue.
- The following streets should be accessed via 33rd Street: Race Street (during hours posted above), Cherry Street, Arch Street, and Powelton Avenue
University Housing strongly urge parents and families to stay with their vehicles while loading and packing. Drexel University Police will enforce a 30-minute maximum load zone in all parts of our residential campus.

Move-Out Day (Saturday, June 13, 2015)
A limited number of moving carts will be available to residential students who are moving. Carts are available on a first-come/first-serve basis. A picture ID is required to obtain a cart. Carts will be available from the Tutor Lounge in Myers Hall directly across from Kelly Hall and accessible via Spangler Walk. You cannot reach the Myers Hall Tutor Lounge from the Myers Lobby/front entrance. You must enter from Spangler Walk.
Return deadlines are strictly enforced! University Housing retains the right to charge a student for failure to return the cart by the deadline or for failure to return the cart.
The carts are available Monday, June 8, 2015, through Friday, June 12, 2015, between the hours of 8AM through 8PM, with the last cart sign out at 7PM. The Office of University Housing Staff will issue one cart per student, with a Drexel University Student ID or valid Driver's License.
University Housing staff will also offer carts on Saturday, June 13, 2015, and Sunday, June 14, 2015, between the hours of 8AM through 3AM, with the last cart sign out at 2PM.
Check Out Process
- Arrange furniture back to its original position
- Debunk beds and return bunk pins to front desk
- Clean your room- Your room must be clean before you checkout, even if your roommate/suitemate(s) still live(s) there. This includes wiping down all surfaces, removing trash, sweeping and/or vacuuming the floor.
- Remove trash and place in receptacles in the trash rooms. You may incur damage charges if this is not completed.
If an individual wants to claim responsibility for damage, please complete a "Damage Responsibility" form, otherwise all residents of the room/suite will be charged. You will be notified of any charges via your Drexel University e-mail account by July 17, 2015.
Return Keys / Check
To check out, complete Check Out Envelope (available at the front desk), place your key inside, and drop into the Key drop box at your front desk. Please be sure to complete the section that asks which side of the bedroom you lived in. The yellow portion of the envelope is yours to keep as a receipt. This process can be completed 24/hours per day, 7 days/week, and no signature is required from a staff member. The hours of operation for all entrances to all residences during Move-Out are the same as the academic year.
If you are checking out without turning in a key (due to a lost key), you should still complete an Express Check Out Envelope. Lost key charges will apply.
Belongings found in a room after keys have been returned will be considered abandoned property and discarded. If you do not properly check out when you leave your residences, you may incur other charges and fines.
Attention University Crossings residents: Turn in your apartment key, mailbox key, and building access card in your Express Check Out envelope. Your drop box is located in the University Crossings lobby. DO NOT turn in your keys to the University Crossings main office. University Housing is not responsible for keys / access cards returned to the wrong location.
Attention Axis residents: Turn in your key fob in your Express Check Out envelope to the Axis front desk. University Housing is not responsible for keys / access cards returned to the wrong location.
Late Check Outs
If you do not leave by your published move out time, you may be escorted out of the residence hall by the Department of Public Safety and assessed a late check-out fee up to $400 plus any fees associated with packing and removing your belongings.
As a precaution during Move-Out, we advise you not to leave your possessions unattended, whether in a cart or a car, even for just a moment. Always lock your car doors. Do not leave your apartment or bedroom unlocked. Make sure your room / apartment is locked and all windows are closed when you leave for the last time. Check the oven and make sure that it is turned off and turn off the apartment lights.
If you have rented a MicroFridge from Campus Specialties:
- If you have moved the MicroFridge from the original room, please notify Campus Specialties immediately (800-525-7307).
- Units will be picked up directly from your room after you have moved out. Please close and lock your door when you move out.
- Unplug the MicroFridge and defrost unit prior to leaving- please be aware that you will be held accountable for any water damage to the floor if you do not defrost unit properly.
- Units must be completely clean and dry. All stickers, glue, and magnets must be completely removed (except for Campus Specialties sticker).
- The MicroFridge must contain two shelves, microwave dish, and roller.
Term Switch/Continuing Housing Assignment (Sunday, June 14, 2015)
If you currently have a spring housing assignment AND a different summer housing assignment, you are term switching on Sunday, June 14, 2015 between 10AM and 2PM. Most students will check out of their Spring 2015 assignment by 10AM and into their Summer 2015 assignment after 2PM.
Your exact check out time will be based on the locations of your spring and summer assignments. Detailed information will be sent to you via your Closing Notice in late May. Please read your Closing Notice carefully for this information.
Continuing Housing Assignment
If you will be in the same room for the summer term as you were in for the spring term, when you leave for break, you do not need to remove all of your belongings. You must, however, be sure that the suite is clean and tidy, and that all belongings are removed from furniture associated with an empty bed.
