Overflow Housing Information for the 2011/2012 year
Drexel University intends to provide all students with an enriching, safe, and comfortable on-campus living environment which complements their in-classroom experience. The University seeks to transform each Drexel residence hall from a place where students simply live to one where they learn the value of living in a diverse community, engage with their peers, and develop a greater sense of self-awareness and a strong connection to the Drexel campus. Despite our best efforts, sometimes there are more students than space available. When this situation occurs, University Housing enacts an "overflow" housing plan. An overflow housing plan could include the conversion of double-occupancy bedrooms to triple-occupancy bedrooms, the conversion of residence hall lounges to bedrooms and other strategies.
These housing options proved to be successful, as multiple students indicated that they had a positive experience in these spaces. As a result, University Housing is providing many of these options for students applying for housing in the 2012-2013 academic year. During the 2011-2012 academic year, Drexel University enacted an overflow housing plan which consisted in the conversion of double occupancy rooms to triple occupancy in Towers Hall, assigning freshmen to upper class housing spaces, leasing space at off-campus housing locations, converting lounges to bedrooms, and extended stay leases at local hotels.
University Housing will provide as much notice as possible to the residential community when/if an Overflow Housing plan is enacted.
