Residency Requirement

Drexel University believes that a safe, clean and comfortable living environment is a valuable part of a student’s social and educational experience and greatly contributes to their growth as a member of the University community.  To ensure that experience, starting with the Fall 2012 academic term, first and second year students are required to live in university approved housing. First year students are required to live in a University Housing residence hall; second year students have a variety of options to choose from.

Students must be aged 17 or older by the first day of the first term for which the student has been admitted to reside in University residences. If a student is not 17 years of age by the first day of the academic term that he or she is beginning classes at Drexel University, then he or she will be eligible for housing the first academic term after turning 17 years of age and will be assigned housing on a space available basis.

The University requires that all first-year students, including students transferring from other institutions, living in University residences to participate in the Gold, Blue, or Platinum Meal Plan. For more information on meal plans, contact Retail Management in MacAlister Hall suite 1049 (phone 215.895.6187 or on the web at: www.drexel.edu/dining )

Students seeking an exemption from the on-campus residency requirement in order to reside with a family member or legal guardian must submit in writing to the Office of University Housing by June 15 or within ten business days of matriculation to Drexel University the following: 1) a letter requesting an exemption from this policy; 2) a letter from his/her parent or legal guardian; and 3) a notarized letter from the parent or guardian with whom he/she will live while a first year student at Drexel University.
