Returning Student Application Information
2012-2013 Returning Student Housing Application Process - now featuring Room Self-Selection!
General Information
Rising Sophomores
Rising sophomores are those students who were new freshmen in the Fall 2011 or Winter 2012 academic term.
Intention to Live on Campus
Signing the Individual Housing Agreement creates a binding, contractual relationship between Drexel University and the individual student. Releases from this agreement are only honored for situations outlined in the Individual Housing Agreement. The Cancellation Policies are strictly enforced.
Guaranteed Housing
Rising sophomores for Fall 2012 are not required to live on campus during the 2012-2013 academic year. Those rising sophomores returning to University Housing are guaranteed housing if an application and housing deposit are submitted by January 31, 2012.
Available Academic Terms for 2012-2013 Housing
On the Housing Application, returning students will select up to three Academic Terms:
- Fall 2012
- Winter 2013 and/or
- Spring 2013
Co-op Students
University Housing offers students with co-op positions outside the Philadelphia area the chance to move closer to their place of employment. Students who receive a co-op placement more than 10 miles away from Drexel University, and will be living in a residence that is also more than 10 miles away from Drexel University, are eligible to cancel housing without a cancellation fee for the terms they are on co-op (please see the Housing Agreement for specific deadlines and procedures). Please note that students who receive a co-op position within 10 miles from the Drexel University City Main Campus, will be held to the Housing Agreement. If you cancel your housing for a co-op outside the city of Philadelphia and have a remaining assignment, you may be reassigned to a different space when you return to campus.
Assignment Order
All rising sophomores returning to University Housing will be guaranteed housing if they complete a Housing Agreement by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. A completed Housing Agreement consists of a complete housing application and a $200 housing deposit. Students who apply after this deadline may be placed on a Housing Wait List.
All other students (students who will be Juniors, Pre-Juniors, or Seniors in Fall 2012) will be offered housing on a first come, first served basis, based on availability. Should no space be available, the student will be placed on the Housing Wait List. These students are strongly encouraged to also complete a Housing Agreement by January 31, 2012 in order for their application to be considered.
All students will be notified of their application status by February 14, 2012.
Cancellations
Students can cancel their Fall 2012 housing by March 22, 2012 with no cancellation fees or penalties. After that date, cancellation fees will apply. Due to the unique nature of the University's quarter system and co-op schedules, the University strictly enforces all cancellation policies. There are modified fees and deadlines for students cancelling their Housing due to co-op placement outside of a 10-mile radius from the University City Main Campus.
Read these cancellation policies, fees and deadlines carefully.
Students who cancel their Fall 2012 assignment, but retain additional academic terms (such as Winter 2013 and/or Spring 2013), may be re-assigned to accommodate assignment needs for the Fall 2012 term.
University Housing will not guarantee preferred roommates for Winter 2013 and Spring 2013 if the student does not live on campus for Fall 2012.
"Squatter's Rights"
University Housing does not offer "Squatter's Rights" in any residence hall during this process.
Choosing Roommates
Returning students can select up to 7 preferred roommates on the Housing Application. Only students with a completed Housing Application will appear in the below search functions. Students can submit a Housing Application and then go back in and select additional preferred roommates!
1. Search for Roommate via MyHousing (Application Step 4) by searching for 'Details'
Search for a specific student using their Drexel University User ID or Last Name. Once preferred roommate is located, you can View their Profile, or Send them a Message. Once you are ready to request this student, click "Request."
2. Search for Roommate via MyHousing (Application Step 4) by searching by profile questions.
All students will complete a simple Living Style survey. Enter search parameters here to locate a potential roommate based on their answers to the Living Style survey.
3. Search for Roommate via MyHousing (Application Step 4) by browsing for matching roommates
Select this option for the MyHousing system to automatically recommend preferred roommates based on answers to the questions provided on the Living Style survey. Once a potential roommate is located, click on "Request." All students must confirm their requests. For example, if Bruce requests Clark as a roommate (using any of the methods described above), then Clark must log into MyHousing to accept Bruce as a Confirmed Roommate. All students may only have up to seven Confirmed Roommates. If Clark did not pay the $200 Housing Deposit, then the Confirmed Roommate relationship will be broken by University Housing. You may have up to seven preferred roommates, but you must accept each one!
4. No Preferred Roommate
Returning students do not need to have a preferred roommate to apply for Housing, or to select a Bed Space during the Room Self-Selection phase. Remember that you must ACCEPT any room mate requests! To do so, you may need to re-log back into MyHousing after your intended roommate sends you a request. Accepted roommates will appear in the top section of the Roommate Search Screen:
