Campus Dining Master Plan: Phase One 2008-2010
The Campus Dining Master Plan was created to enhance the quality of food service and the variety of locations throughout University City Main Campus. The Campus Dining Master Plan focuses on contemporary dining options, new and renovated dining locations, and sustainability initiatives. The master plan is based on results obtained from the Educational Benchmarking Inc., a student satisfaction assessment and a Drexel Campus Dining survey for students, faculty and staff conducted in 2008.
Pinnacles of phase one of the Campus Dining Master Plan include:
- In January of 2008 the Bookmark Café in Hagerty Library was opened as an addition to the newly renovated 24/7 area of the Library.
- In April of 2008 ThirtyOne41, in the Main Building, was opened and currently offers a selection of gourmet coffee, specialty pastries, and light fare.
- In the Spring of 2008 outdoor seating was added at three food locations-Starbucks, Northside Market, and Bookmark Café.
- In September of 2008 the Ross Commons Corner Café was renovated into TAKE3 featuring Freschetta Pizza. TAKE3 is a meal plan equivalent option which meal plan customers can use Monday through Friday instead of going to the Handschumacher Dining Center. TAKE3 gives them the option of choosing an entrée, a side and a beverage plus a bonus cookie. In its first term, TAKE3 “swapped” 17,300 meals. Freschetta Pizza offers freshly baked slices, personal and large pizzas every day.
- In October of 2008 AFC Sushi, featuring freshly rolled and made-to-order sushi, was added to the Northside Market.
- In October of 2008 a new menu with Panini combos, which include a bag of chips, a side of pasta or potato salad and a pickle was introduced at the Creese Cafe.
- In the Fall of 2008 “Chestnut Street Caterers”, the new brand and name for Drexel’s Catering Department, was introduced. Chestnut Street Caterers has catering menus for large and upscale events, as well as a student organizations “Just 4 U” catering program.
- In the Winter of 2008 the University Club opened its doors to a new interior design, menu, and special events policy.
- In January of 2009 “The Balanced Way” program, which makes healthy eating simple and delicious, started at the Handschumacher Dining Center.
- In the Fall of 2009 the Bookmark Café at the Hagerty Library was converted into a Taco Bell Express.
- In December 2009, the Northside Dining Terrace featuring Chick-Fil-A, Subway, Currito, Sushi and Market, in the heart of of the residential campus, opened.
- In March of 2010 an upscale Sports Bar and Grille, Landmark Americana, will open at 34th and Market Streets.
