Since we are all saying ‘hello’ I thought I would join in and not only say hello but present my credentials. I think it is important for students to know something about their professor and his or her qualifications. First from the personal side, I have four grown children, (all, of course, are very successful) and eight grandchildren.
As to my credentials, I am a graduate of Boston College and after a few years with the Marine Corps I joined IBM. During my 30 years at IBM I enjoyed many management positions. For the most part I was in marketing, and in addition to my line positions I was manager of recruiting for my division. My last position was in the Communication area as Manager of Community Relations in the Mid-Atlantic Region. During my last few years at IBM I decided to go back to school. I think I did this to protect my position or prepare for another. Well, I did receive my Masters in Journalism from Temple University and then my Doctorate. (By the way, I was the oldest graduate the year I received my Ph.D. So I know what it means to go back school.) My graduate research was in corporate communications and my dissertation focused on private corporate Television.
Since receiving my Doctorate I have had the great opportunity to teach at several outstanding colleges and universities. I have taught both business and communication subjects at Drexel for more than ten years and at Penn State and Cabrini College here in Pennsylvania. I have also taught at Emerson College in Boston as well as Tufts University and Boston College. So I come to you with both academic and business credentials.
I look forward to an enjoyable and successful experience this term working with you.
