Special: Accelerated: Fast Facts About SuperNOVA

FACT SHEET: Drexel University’s B.S./Ph.D. or SuperNOVA program

Academically ambitious students looking to attend Drexel’s College of Engineering or the biomedical engineering program of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems now have the opportunity to join one of the University’s newest and most rigorous programs, the SuperNOVA or B.S./Ph.D. program.

Admission Requirements
Students apply to the program during their senior year in high school. Beyond the standard B.S. program requirements, there are no specific admission criteria SuperNOVA applicants must meet, although so far all successful candidates has had SAT scores higher than 1300.

Drexel University does not award academic credit for Advanced Placement (AP) tests. However, students who earn a 4 or a 5 on an AP test can waive certain introductory-level courses, freeing up time to take higher-level classes and get a head start on Ph.D. studies.

Coursework
Each SuperNOVA student’s schedule is unique and is based on the specific major and the number of AP credits earned. However, all are expected to complete the bachelor’s degree requirement by the end of the spring term of their fourth year. To help students succeed, the program offers continuous academic and research advising.

Students must maintain a 3.2 GPA to stay in the program. In addition, to become a Ph.D. candidate, students must pass an oral examination based on their research at the end of each research period.
