Talented Youth Join in Biotechnology and Bioengineering Efforts at Drexel University’s Science and Technology Workshops
The one-day program hosted by Drexel will engage parents and students in several breakout sessions. The breakout sessions include the following: A hands-on demonstration of bio-diesel processing; an experiential plasma medicine demonstration that highlights how plasma can be developed for medical applications that include sterilization of medical instruments and environments, blood coagulation, treatments of cancer and Crohn’s disease; a hands-on demonstration on how to develop microcapsules with a chance to develop individual capsules; and a presentation on geometric biomedical computing which includes 3D scans, shape analysis of bone images and cell aggregation simulation. The breakout sessions will end with a final presentation by industry experts in biotechnology. Students will learn how biotechnology and bioengineering fields affects citizens and what how to prepare for collegiate study and careers. Drexel University hosted its first of these events for CTY in October 2007 on a theme of nanotechnology. The overwhelming success of the event led to an invitation from CTY to host another one for the upcoming series. Drexel is one of only 9 universities nationwide that will host such an event during the 2009-2010 academic year. | ||||||||||||||||||||
