Drexel’s Concrete Canoe Team Takes Home First at the 2005 Regional Competition

Drexel’s student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers took home first place at this year’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Concrete Canoe Competition. The 14-member team known as the “Canoonies” placed first in the technical paper and final product categories, second in the oral presentation competition also took home several first and second places for other various races. Drexel’s team took overall first place beating out Temple University, University of Maryland-College Park, Bucknell University, University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and Delaware University, to win the title of 2005 Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions. Drexel’s win means they will represent the Mid-Atlantic region during the 19th annual National Concrete Canoe Competition held this year at Clemson University in South Carolina, June 25 – 27th.

Four members from Drexel’s Canoonies are racing their canoe to the finish line. The Drexel team took first place beating out rivals Temple, Maryland, Bucknell and others. The squad will advance to the regional championships this summer.
