CoE and Athletics Host 76ers vs. Spurs Basketball Game(12/10/04)
The College of Engineering and Drexel Athletics departments hosted a club box for alumni and friends to watch the Philadelphia 76ers play the San Antonio Spurs. Over 30 guests enjoyed the game on November 18, 2004 and they were cheering for both teams; San Antonio Spurs player Malik Rose is a 1996 Drexel education graduate.

The College of Engineering Advisory Council gathered in November for their first meeting of the 2004-05 fiscal year. The Advisory Council has reorganized the governance and leadership to better assist the Dean and the goals and objectives of the College.

American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Visit Drexel(12/10/04)
In November the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) members attended an exclusive reception and tour of the Drexel Plasma Institute (DPI), where currently, extensive research related to plasma and other modern high energy engineering techniques is conducted.

Drexel University and Williamstown High School Signs Partnership(11/17/04)
Drexel University signed a one-year agreement with the Williamstown High School. The agreement automatically accepts graduating Williamstown high school students that complete the computer science, business or finance program with SAT scores of at least 1200 and are in the top 20 percent of the graduating class.

Digneo Scholarship Holds Benefit Golf Tournament(11/15/04)
Participants of the Anthony C. Digneo Scholarship Golf Tournament swung their golf clubs to raise money to benefit engineering students in financial need. The tournament and dinner were held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Pennsauken Country Club in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Dean Selçuk Güçeri kicked off the new academic year with a reception welcoming the engineering faculty, staff and students back to campus. At the Welcome Back Reception, new faculty members were introduced and welcomed to the team and new student fellowships were congratulated.

Drexel University Ranked as Top Third School For Women Faculty(10/05/04)
In the October 2004 edition of Prism, Drexel University’s College of Engineering was ranked third for highest percentage of women faculty members at schools awarding 20 or more doctoral degrees at 15.2% and seventh for highest percentage of doctoral degrees awarded to women at 28.2%.

Symposium in Honor of Dr. Robert M. Koerner (9/15/04)
Dr. Robert M. Koerner ’56, ’63 is the H. L. Bowman Professor of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and director of the Geosynthetic Institute was honored on Monday, September 13, 2004 by the national community of geosynthetics researchers on his retirement from the College of Engineering.

The 2005 edition of America's Best Colleges from U.S. News & World Report ranked Drexel University’s College of Engineering undergraduate program 50th among engineering schools that award doctoral degrees. Drexel’s engineering program continues to receive highly credited recognition for both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Bruce Eisenstein Appointed Associate Dean (8/24/04)
Dean Selçuk Güçeri announced the appointment of Dr. Bruce Eisenstein as Associate Dean in the College of Engineering and Executive Director of the Drexel Engineering Curriculum (tDEC). Eisenstein will lead Drexel’s undergraduate engineering curriculum, and continue the tradition of Drexel as being the premier institution for engineering education.

Drexel Hosts Multiple Summer Programs(8/4/04)
The College of Engineering hosted an array of summer programs this year that allowed high school students and teachers, and undergraduate students to develop a better understanding of engineering and current research. The five programs DREAM, RETAIN, RET Nano, SEED, Summer Mentorship and MSP included over 200 high school students, 90 high school teachers and 14 undergraduate students.

Solar Atmospheres, Inc. Furnance is Dedicated at MSE VAB Meeting (7/27/04)
At the annual meeting of the Materials Science and Engineering Visiting Advisory Board on Thursday, May 6, 2004, Solar Atmospheres, Inc. CEO and VAB member William R. Jones accepted a plaque on behalf of Solar Atmospheres in honor of their donation of a laboratory, vertical, top-loading vacuum heat treating furnace to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University.

MSE Hosts 10-Week Research Experience for Undergraduates (6/8/04)
The department of materials science and engineering (MSE) was selected by the National Science Foundation as a Research Experience for Undergraduates site for the program "DREAM: Drexel Research Experience in Advanced Materials." The program will be administered by MSE Department Head Dr. Surya Kalidindi and Dr. Antonios Zavaliangos, and was written by the MSE Program Coordinator Dorilona Rose. The program received a three-year $334,071 grant.

Department of Athletics Announces Scholar-Athletes (6/6/04)
The Drexel Athletic Department announced this year’s scholar-athletes at the Eighth Annual Scholar-Athlete Award Ceremony on May 28, 2004. The College of Engineering is proud to announce the following ten scholar-athlete recipients have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or higher while competing in Division I athletics.

Senior Design Competition Winners Announced (6/3/04)
The College of Engineering held its Annual Senior Design Group Competition on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. This year, eight engineering projects from five of the college’s departments were selected as finalists to present their work during this last phase of the competition. John Chmiola was awarded first place and $2000.
