Call for Abstracts

The ASI “Plasma Assisted Decontamination of Biological and Chemical Agents” will focus on detection and decontamination of chemical and biological contaminants with an emphasis on applications of plasma technology.

In the field of plasma, there is an urgent need for new and broadly applicable technologies in order to tackle evolving societal challenges.  One of the most important aspects of this ASI will be the dissemination of information to achieve acceleration of developments in the fight against terrorism and terror-related incidences, as well as to seek solutions regarding critical societal problems such as maintenance of clean water supplies and improved healthcare.

Therefore, the two main objectives of the ASI will be plasma and living tissue/cell interactions, and selective molecular disintegration under cold plasma exposure.  These two topical areas are highly interdisciplinary and will hence facilitate a forum for leading researchers and students in plasma biology to gather together to discuss and foster new developments and effective solutions.

Invited speakers, from NATO and Partner countries, will present some of the most recent developments in physics, chemistry, and technology of plasma biology. We have selected a broad range of excellent speakers having international standing and representing uniformly NATO and partner countries, as well as university, industrial and government research laboratories. A larger number of lecturers have been invited from NATO countries with the goal to train and motivate scientists from partner countries to explore the area of plasma assisted decontaminiation.

Partner country scientists are expected to contribute more than 50% of the ASI students; thus ensuring a well-balanced group of attendees.  The latest experimental results will be presented in contributed short papers and posters. Two hours will be allocated for each invited lecture with ample time for discussion. Contributed papers will be given 20 minute time slots. Two poster sessions, which will also include posters from graduate students, will be organized on two of the evenings. Poster presenters will be given 5 min after the lecture to advertise and briefly describe their posters.
