The Annual Dean's Distinguished Lecture

"Public-Private Partnerships in Global Health"
Richard Clark, Chairman, President and CEO of Merck & Co., Inc.

May 28, 2008
2:00 p.m. Lecture
Reception to Follow
Mitchell Auditorium, Bossone Building

Lecture Abstract:

Approximately 3 million children die every year from diseases that vaccines can help prevent. Of the 33 million people living with HIV and AIDS today, only a fraction are receiving drugs that could save their lives. Global partnerships like the ones Merck and Co., Inc. participates in help overcome the social, political and economic barriers that prevent patients from receiving life-saving therapies, particularly in the developing world. By leveraging the expertise of the partners, these initiatves are helping to build health care capacity, expand delivery systems and address specific health and development challenges. Results demonstrate the power of public private partnerships in solving global health challenges.
