About CoE

Since its founding in the midst of the industrial revolution in 1891, Drexel University has emphasized its strengths in engineering, science and technology to train men and women to become leaders. In little over a century, Drexel University has transformed itself into a large, comprehensive institution committed to excellence in education, research and service to the engineering society and to the broader community. Although much has changed, the original mission of the university still rings true today.

With the advent of the Internet, biotechnology and nanotechnology, we are witnessing revolutionary changes daily in every facet of our lives. Drexel University's College of Engineering is proud to have become a leader in these important emerging fields. Recently, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pledged $10.5 million towards the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute (DNI), a joint venture between Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania and Ben Franklin Technology Partners. Our close collaborations with Drexel's renowned School of Biomedical Engineering and its newly acquired College of Medicine (DUCOM) will lead to revolutionary advances in tissue engineering, biomaterials and biomedical imaging as well as fantastic opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations in the medical field.

Through a $12.5 million grant from the Department of Defense, Drexel also established the Applied Communications and Information Network Center. In addition, Drexel was re-designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education for academic years 2004-2007. Construction on the college's new $35 million Bossone Research Enterprise Center was completed in early 2005. The center, is home to facilities in nanotechnology, information networking and smart infrastructures, and will open new research avenues for the next generation of Drexel students.
