10th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges: Crossing Borders

Thursday, March 2, 2017

8:30 AM-5:30 PM

The Office of International Programs is pleased to announce the 10th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges, "CROSSING BORDERS."

Innovations in technology and transportation have made it easier than ever to connect across borders. Information, ideas, goods, services, scientific discoveries, and capital, as well as pollution, disease, illegal drugs, weapons, and some people move easily across borders; while an increasing number of refugees and economic migrants find themselves blocked at these same, often porous borders. What are the costs and benefits of an increasingly interconnected world? This conference offers students the occasion to engage in critical reflection and dialogue on how the opportunities and threats of border crossings are shaping our global context from such diverse disciplines as health, engineering, education, science, human rights, medicine, law, media and arts, economics, politics, development, and history.

There will be six student panels open to undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Global Science, Technology, and Society
  • Global Health
  • Global Media, Culture, and Arts
  • Global Justice and Human Rights
  • Global Business and Economic Trends
  • Global Political and Social Trends

The event is free and open to the public. Register online.

Students interested in applying to present on a panel may do so here.

This event is part of the Drexel Global Passport Series (GPS): Enter the World. The inaugural year of this series centers on "Global Civic Engagement." Drexel GPS seeks to facilitate global conversations at Drexel and in Philadelphia to ensure rich student engagement and build strong partnerships with local communities and organizations.
