Background: : Ph.D. - Drexel University (1999).
Dr. Bien conducts applied research in the New Jersey Pine Barrens and supervises student projects at the New Jersey Air National Guard Warren Grove Gunnery Range. Dr. Bien has a Marine Operator's Certification (Master's Class) from the United States Coast and operates the Drexel University research vessels. Dr. Bien has been a co-principal investigator of the Leatherback Turtle Conservation Project in Costa Rica (1998-2002). Before coming to Drexel University Dr. Bien was a public educator for 31 years.

Research Interests: Sphagnum ecology, herpetology, paleoecology, marine ecology, restoration ecology, fire ecology, and plant community ecology. restoration ecology, Aquatic Studies, Mammal Studies
