REQUIRED TEXT: INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY 9th Edition
Henry L. Tischler, 2007, Thompson/Wadsworth
ISBN: 0-495-09334-3 Publishing
OBJECTIVES: This course introduces sociology to the student as a
method of scientific research into the social interaction
of human beings. Topics such as education, politics,
religion, marriage, social structure, research methods,
and culture, will be examined. Focus will be on
sociological methods and concepts as tools for under-
standing human arrangements.
METHODS: This lecture and student-participation course will provide
students ample classroom discussion for the free-flowing
of ideas and concepts based on topics contained in the
text and elsewhere. This format will enable and empower
students to apply knowledge gained to the Ňreal worldÓ.
Students will be required to lead classroom discussion
in assigned topics, and actively participate in those
discussions.

will be strictly followed when acts of cheating or academic
dishonesty
are discovered.
SCHEDULE OF STUDY: Due to class format the schedule of study is developed in class.
The syllabus therefore is subject to change in order to meet
these needs. Your grade is negatively impacted 10 points for
every absence past four. You could fail with 8 absences. You
canŐt earn an A+ if you donŐt come to class and substantially
participate. I will add 1 point to your final average if you are
within a point of the next highest letter grade, for students with less
than 4 absences. I reserve the option to test if participation falls off.
