OBJECTIVES: This course introduces sociology to the student as a
method of scientific research into the social interaction
of human beings. Topics such as education, politics,
religion, marriage, social structure, research methods,
and culture, will be examined. Focus will be on
sociological methods and concepts as tools for under-
standing human arrangements.
METHODS: This lecture and student-participation course will provide
students ample classroom discussion for the free-flowing
of ideas and concepts based on topics contained in the
text and elsewhere. This format will enable and empower
students to apply knowledge gained to the ³real world².
Students will be required to lead classroom discussion
in assigned topics, and actively participate in those
discussions.

SCHEDULE OF STUDY: Due to the format in which this class is presented, the schedule
of study will be developed in class. In addition, the syllabus
is subject to change from time to time in order to meet and
address situations as they occur. Your grade is affected if you
exceed 4 absences. You cannot obtain an ³A² if your donıt
come to class and substantially participate in discussions. You
could fail with 8 absences.
