AKTA FPLC™ System

An AKTA FPLC™ system is
available for the separation and characterization of biomolecules
and is especially suited for the purification of proteins. Fast-performance liquid chromatography can be utilized to characterize the hydrodynamic behavior of biomolecules over a large size
range (1 > 1,000,000 daltons)
and can be implemented in
analytical and preparative scales.

The AKTA FPLC™ system is equipped with UV and conductivity detectors and an automated fraction collector. The system is controlled via UNICORN software and a Method Wizard can be used for easy design of purification schemes. A wide variety of chromatography media is available for separation by size exclusion, ion exchange, hyrdrophobicity or affinity chromatography. Instruments available to researchers include the Agilent 6890 Gas Liquid Chromatograph with capillary inlet system and flame ionization detector and autosampler and the Agilent Series 1100 High Performance Liquid Chromatograph with autosampler, quaternary pumps, thermostated column chamber, fluorescence detector and diode array detector. Both instruments are connected to an HP Kyak workstation running Agilent ChemStation software for instrument control, data acquisition and data evaluation.

The AKTA FPLC™ system is located in Stratton Hall Rm 319 and anyone interested in using the system should contact Dr. Aleister Saunders (ajs56@drexel.edu).
