Author Percival Everett grew up in South Carolina and attended the University of Miami and the University of Oregon, where he did graduate work in philosophy. He has an MFA in writing from Brown University and has published 15 books. He is the recipient of an Academy Award for Literature, the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Award, and a Lila Wallace Fellowship, among others. He is a professor of English at the University of Southern California.
