Africana Studies offers an interdisciplinary examination of the black

experience in the
Americas, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. Courses in the program explore
the distinct historical, political and cultural traditions of people of African
descent. The program also concentrates on equity issues and stresses service learning
in a wide variety of community-based organizations.
Africana Studies offers valuable training of special interest to those considering
admission to graduate and professional schools or careers in education, journalism,
law, business management, city planning, international relations, politics, psychology,
publishing, and social work.
The interdisciplinary structure of Africana Studies provides students with an
opportunity to satisfy the increasingly rigorous expectations
of admissions
committees and prospective employers. Under our program, students acquire critical,
interdisciplinary research skills as well as invaluable experience working on-site in a
variety of non-profit and for-profit agencies. Whether majoring in computer science,
engineering or the humanities and social sciences, this minor offers a broad liberal
arts perspective that complements the specialized knowledge of a traditional major.
Perhaps most important, Africana Studies helps Drexel University students meet the
challenges of an increasingly diverse and sophisticated global arena.
