Programs in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science At Drexel University May 2008 Newsletter
Recent Awards:
Two faculty members received prestigious awards at the Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) in Nashville, TN in February 2008. Dr. Lisa Chiarello received the GE "Bud" DeHaven Award for extraordinary service to the Section on Pediatrics. Dr. Robert Palisano received the Anniversary Award from the Section on Pediatrics in acknowledgement of his vision, service and support on behalf of the Section on Pediatrics.
Recent Grant:
Scott Biely (PhD student), Dr. Sheri Silfies, and Dr. Sue Smith received a $25,000 Orthopaedic Section grant for their study, “Validation of Clinical Observation of Aberrant Movement Patterns in Patients with Mechanical Low Back Pain.”
Recent Presentations:
Faculty, recent alumni and students have also been busy presenting! Invited presentations: Dr. Palisano presented on measures of motor development and function for children with cerebral palsy at the Congress of the Spanish Society of Pediatric PT, in Barcelona, Spain in November. Dr. Palisano also presented two CSM sessions, “Adolescents with Cerebral Palsy: Enabling Transition to Adulthood” and “Gross Motor Function Classification System: Validation of a 12-18 Year Age Band and Revision of the 6-12 Year Age Band.” Dr. Chiarello presented a CSM Practice Forum titled, “Updated Competencies for Physical Therapists in Early Intervention.” Recent peer-reviewed presentations:
