Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences: Tips on Applying to Drexel’s Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

  • Apply now online!  - It’s FREE and only takes a few minutes.  You can apply on this site: http://www.drexel.edu/em/apply/cnhp/default.html Additional supporting documents can be submitted in any order at any time.  So start the application process now, by taking the first step – the fast, free, online application!
  • Send in supporting documents as you have them.  They do not have to be submitted all at once.  Once we receive any one of your documents, we will create a file for you.  As we receive additional documents, we will add them to your file.
  • For example, if you are taking several prerequisites during the fall term and want to wait to send your transcripts until those fall grades are recorded, send in your all of your other documents now.  This way we know of your intentions and can begin tracking with your application.  Once we receive your transcripts, we can act more quickly on your application.
  • At the time of application you may have up to 3 science prerequisites which still need to be taken.  We understand that you may still have a few prerequisite courses to take.  You may still apply, and we can make an application decision if you have three or less science prerequisites outstanding.  If you are accepted to the DPT program, it will be with the understanding that prior to the start of the program, you will submit official transcripts stating the satisfactory completion (‘C’ or higher) of those prerequisite courses.

  • You may take any of the prerequisite courses (with the exception of the upper-divisional biology course) at a community college.  The upper-divisional biology course must be taken at a four-year accredited university.

  • If you are unsure as to whether or not one of your courses fulfills our prerequisite requirement, you may email the course description to: ptadmissions@drexel.edu for evaluation and approval.

  • Be sure to record ALL the courses you have taken from the Biology, Chemistry and Physics departments on your PT Supplemental Application.  If you retook a class for a better grade, both courses should appear on your PT Supplemental Application.  It is better to be honest than for inconsistencies to be discovered during the application review process.

  • We are generally looking for applicants with at least a 3.0 overall GPA, at least a 3.0 science GPA, combined verbal & quantitative GRE scores of at least 1000 and analytical GRE score of at least a 4.0. If your application falls below these recommendations, we encourage you to still apply.  These are merely general guidelines.  We consider the whole application, so if your application is weaker in one area, it may be compensated for by other areas of your application.  We will review ALL applications we receive.

  • We have rolling admission; we do not have an application deadline.  Rolling admission means we review and make decisions on completed applications as we receive them.  We continue to review applications until our class is full.  Therefore, it is to your advantage to complete your application (fill out the online application and submit all the supporting documents) as early as possible, giving you the greatest opportunity to be considered for our class before it is filled.

  • Allow adequate time.  You should plan to allow one month from the time you put your last supporting documents in the mail to when I could contact you for an interview.  We only interview applicants with competitive applications that are complete (application and supporting documents all submitted).  We typically begin interviews at the end of October and continue until our class is full.  In 2008 our class was full by the end of February.

  • Take charge of your application.  You are responsible to track and follow through with your application.  Keep record of the dates that you mail documents, follow up with references & transcripts, and communicate with me if you want an update on the status of your application.

  • If you think you should have heard from us about
your application and you haven’t, contact me.
At the peak of admissions season Drexel receives thousands of application documents a day.  It is possible that one of your documents could be misplaced.  Since I do not review applications until all of the documents are received, it is important that you contact me if it has been over a month since you submitted your last documents.

  • GRE – Our code is 2194.  We typically receive your scores (if you indicated our code on your exam) two weeks after you take the test.  If you plan to retake the GRE for higher scores, please contact me so I know to hold on reviewing your application until we have received your new scores.

  • All of your supporting documents can be mailed to:
