Post-Professional
Clinical Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy: Program Format
Supported Distance
Learning Enhanced by Periodic On-Site Sessions
The post-professional
DPT program employs teaching methods that acknowledge the clinical
eperience of the participants and promote application to improve
clinical practive. Distance education makes this program accessible
to the busy progfessional, by minimizing time away from jobs and
other commitments, and by minimizing travel time, freeing more time
for study.
Classes are
provided primarily through distance learning venues, supported byregular
faculty contact, and enhanved by periodic attendance, especially
in courses where psychomotor competence is developed. Learning materials
are available via computer and written formats and through live
discussion and interaction.
Support for
distance learning students is vital to ensure that students learn
effectively. Faculty support is available trhough email, telephone,
fax, discussion boards and face to face meetings. Students receive
informative feedback as well as formal assessment of their achievements.
In all cases, the faculty builds upon its experience to make the
materials as intereactive as possible and to ensure that students
are well supported in their studies.
Onsite
Orientation Weekends
To enhance learning and networking opportunities, the program includes
onsite orientation weekends at the beginning of the first and second
year.
Clinical
Laboratory Sessions
Attendance is required for onsite clinical laboratory sessions during
the concentration courses to develop and enhance psychomotor skills
and clinical competencies.
